USS Taylor Launch – 7 June 1942

USS Taylor (DD 468) was named for Rear Admiral William Rogers Taylor and was the second U.S. Navy ship to bear the name. Mrs. H. A. Baldridge, wife of Captain Harry A. Baldridge, USN (Ret), was invited to sponsor the ship on Launch Day, 7 June 1942. By tradition, a ship’s sponsor bestows good fortune and divine protection on the vessel and all who sail in her. Mrs Baldridge did her job well: USS Taylor never suffered crippling damage or lost a man in battle.
