CDR John F. Matejceck
Commander John F. Matejceck entered the United States Navy in January 1940, and had advanced to the rate of Fire Controlman First Class while serving on DIXIE when he entered Purdue University in June 1945 through the NROTC program. He transferred to the University of Texas, graduated in September 1945 and received his commission. Upon receiving his commission, Commander Matejceck was assigned to the Destroyer Officers School, Norfolk, Virginia, and then proceeded to USS ENDICOTT (DMS 35) for duty. Subsequently he served on USS LOFBERG (DD 759) as Gunnery Officer, USS EPCER 857 as Executive Officer and Navigator, USS FRONTIER (AD 25) as Gunnery Officer, USS JARVIS (DD 799) as Executive Officer and Navigator, and Commanding Officer Of USS ENDURANCE (MSO 435). Commander Matejceck has attended General Line School and was both student and instructor at U.S. Navy Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. He served as Staff Aerologist and Staff Navigator, Commander Amphibious Group ONE. Prior to taking command of TAYLOR, Commander Matejceck was U.S. Naval Attache, Colombo, Ceylon. Commander Matejceck’s wife is the former Eileen Courtney of Staten Island, New York. The Matejceck’s with their daughter “Miss Mickey” Matejceck, now reside in Honolulu.
