During her Vietnam War years, Taylor had four deployments to Vietnam, which would prove to be her last as a unit of the U.S. Navy. USS Taylor (DD 468) was decommissioned on 2 July 1969 and stricken from the Navy list after 27 years of service from World War II to the Vietnam War. USS Taylor Vietnam War History

Taylor’s missions in Vietnam included many hours of gunline support for troops ashore, as well as plane guarding for carriers launching aircraft from Yankee Station in the Gulf of Tonkin.

While conducting exercises with the Japanese Navy en route to Vietnam in May 1967, Taylor and the USS Hornet (CV 12) Task Group were harassed by Russian destroyers, resulting in the Russian ships colliding with USS Walker (DD 517).
